The IT Business Analyst is the entry level position in the IT Business Analyst job family. They operate in low to medium complexity environments, taking their instructions from the IT manager and their guidance from the IT Business Analysis Manager.

The IT Business Analyst works with internal clients to determine business requirements and to define solutions to address business, process, information and system problems, improvements or change.

What you'll be doing

The IT Business Analyst applies best practice methodologies to define, to scope, document and validate the requirements of internal clients for information, processes, information or system changes and improvements or problems.

The requirements defined by the Analyst are used to define best practice solutions for the business. Project managers manage the delivery of the defined solutions. The IT Business Analyst ensures the development of concepts and the management of these from inception through to post deployment. They co-ordinate and manage these projects including:

• Scoping requirements – organising workshops, interviewing stakeholders, documenting findings
• Documenting requirements – building of the required documents including business requirements and functional specifications
• Managing development – working with the relevant teams to perform development
• Testing – organising, conducting and documenting testing, ensuring that the appropriate testing is conducted and auditable
• Implementation – rolling out of the development, training users, ensuring communication and creating and updating the relevant documentation
• Support – providing support to business users post go-live
• Meetings – attend weekly project meetings, keeping the senior analysts and management team notified of progress and advising delays or any issues

They develop and maintain operational documentation including but not limited to process flows, procedures, work instructions, training manuals, interactive training and test scenarios.

IT Business Analysts are required to have broad understanding of business practices and processes. Analysts focussing on system analysis should have deep expertise in specific systems and technologies that they will be required to analyse.

IT Business Analysts commence work towards a BABok or equivalent qualification. Process mapping technology knowledge is a requirement for these employees.

Behavioural skills
IT Business Analysts display good client service orientation with well-developed administrative and organisational skills. They demonstrate good attention to detail whilst working under pressure. These individuals have good verbal and written communication skills and display the ability to build rapport with a variety of stakeholders. They display knowledge of project methodology.

Required Work Experience:
3 – 5 years’ work experience
At least 2 - 3 years’ Project management experien
