Retail store assistant

We are looking for a retail shop assistant to work at our store in South Melbourne. You will need to have previous retail and merchandising experience, be able to scan stock and enter into a computer. Other duties include keeping the shop clean, stacking shelves, unpacking palettes and assisting on the cash register. This role is physical and will require someone who is able to move shelving and who is highly energetic, enthusiastic, and is able to liaise with customers. You will need to take initiative, keep shelves stacked, input prices and oversee stock levels. The role is full time Wed, Fri, Sat and Sunday. Only Australian PR will be considered.

The following skills and personality traits are essential:

  • Friendly, well presented, neat, communicate well, organised and enthusiastic
  • Ability to take initiative and pre-empt what needs to be done
  • Previous experience in a (small) retail environment essential
  • Pack out pallets, stack shelves and get rid of boxes
  • Write up price tickets and monitor stock levels
  • Scan stock and enter into computer system
  • Ensure that stock is constantly clean ie sweep and mop floors and dust stock
  • Reliable honest and trustworthy (police clearance certificate required)
  • Enthusiastic and willing to work hard - hours may vary
  • Strong, fit and healthy as this is a physical role where goods will need to be brought in and out of the store on a daily basis.
  • Take a keen interest in the profitability of the business
  • Input of invoices into POS system
