The Department of Home Affairs is a central policy agency, providing coordinated strategy and policy leadership for Australia's national and transport security, federal law enforcement, criminal justice, cyber security, border, immigration, multicultural affairs, emergency management and trade related functions.

The Department of Home Affairs includes the entirety of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection. It also includes national security, emergency management and criminal justice functions from the Attorney-General's Department; the Office of Transport Security from the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development; multicultural affairs from the Department of Social Services; and the counter-terrorism coordination and cyber security policy functions from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Overview of the Branch and Section:

The Corporate and Case Systems Branch, within the Home Affairs ICT Division, is responsible for:

  • Designing and developing innovative solutions to support the business using SAP (HR and Finance), Microsoft products for online channels and various technologies to develop and enhance our Case Management Systems.
  • Developing standards, patterns and frameworks that support the provision of a number of enterprise functions such as User Experience, IT Capacity management and performance testing, as well as setting the standards for our online channels and case management systems.

The Case & Incident Management Systems Section (CIMS) is responsible for Enterprise Case and Incident Management. This includes Enterprise Case Management (based on the Siebel Platform), Enforcement Case management and Enterprise Incident Management (based on the Noggin platform). CIMS is undertaking a major program of work covering investment in existing enterprise platforms and the remediation, sustainment, replacement and decommission of legacy systems.

About the role:

The Siebel Administrator position is part of the Business As Usual (BAU) Team and is responsible for:

  • Coordinating activities associated with the deployment into lower environments and production of Siebel eFixes and major releases under limited direction from the Siebel BAU Team Lead
  • Monitoring the performance of the Siebel and other system environments including lower and production environments
  • Supporting deployment of code for BAU and project deliveries.

This role is also responsible for the support environments across a range of other systems supported by Case and Incident Management Systems.

Specific duties/responsibilities:

  • Managing system deployment requests, system incidents and problem resolution requests and escalating issues and risks
  • Raising and processing system change requests through the change management framework
  • Managing and coordinating datafix requests for multiple systems and update of reference data
  • Providing preliminary assessment of change proposals which may impact production systems
  • Troubleshooting environment issues
  • Providing ‘On Call’ out of hours support as necessary
  • Conducting complex/technical research and analysis activities to assist in the diagnosis and tuning of performance issues within the Siebel and other supported systems
  • Internal and external stakeholder engagement on technical issues related to Siebel system performance
  • Information gathering, analysis and management of Siebel system performance issues
  • Support for continuous system performance improvement
  • Identification and progression of risks, issues and opportunities for improved system performance
  • Adherence to Home Affairs Siebel Methodology
  • Developing and maintaining key documentation and ensuring it is appropriately stored in the department’s recordkeeping repository.

Role requirements/qualifications:

  • 5 years + experience working as a systems administrator in a highly integrated ICT environment preferred
  • ICT degree or equivalent level of experience.

  2. Knowledge and experience working with SM9, Quality Centre and Service Manager
  3. Technical background and knowledge of a least one of the following  
    • Javascript;
    • Siebel Tools V& or V8;
    • SQL preferably with Oracle or DB2.
  4. Experience working in an SDLC environment.

Candidates who progress to the next stage will be invited to complete a work sample test, followed by an interview.

  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Fulfil the Department’s minimum requirements by satisfactorily answering all screening questions during the application process
  • Obtain and maintain the required AGSVA clearance
  • Obtain and maintain a current Employment Suitability Clearance
  • Undergo a health assessment (where applicable).
