The Department of Home Affairs is a central policy agency, providing coordinated strategy and policy leadership for Australia's national and transport security, federal law enforcement, criminal justice, cyber security, border, immigration, multicultural affairs, emergency management and trade related functions.

The Department of Home Affairs includes the entirety of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection. It also includes national security, emergency management and criminal justice functions from the Attorney-General's Department; the Office of Transport Security from the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development; multicultural affairs from the Department of Social Services; and the counter-terrorism coordination and cyber security policy functions from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Overview of the Branch and Section:

The Corporate and Case Systems Branch, within the Home Affairs ICT Division, is responsible for:

  • Designing and developing innovative solutions to support the business using SAP (HR and Finance), Microsoft products for online channels and various technologies to develop and enhance our Case Management Systems
  • Developing standards, patterns and frameworks that support the provision of a number of enterprise functions such as User Experience, IT Capacity management and performance testing, as well as setting the standards for our online channels and case management systems.

The ICT Capacity and Performance Management (ICTCaPM) section provides enterprise-wide functions and services that improve the organisation's capabilities though ICT capacity and performance management. The section aims to:

  • Contribute to the continuous quality improvement of ICT applications and business processes
  • Help application developers and projects deliver systems that meet both functional and non-functional requirements
  • Help the Department make capacity and performance decisions by providing stakeholders with timely, accurate and detailed information about ICT systems and components.

About the role:

The Senior Test Automation Analyst will be part of a medium-sized team and report to the Test Automation Manager, ICT Capacity and Performance Management. The position is responsible for being able to be deployed to a wide range of projects and programs, and undertaking the analysis and execution required to effectively implement test automation.

The role requires a strong understanding of test automation tools, techniques, and methodologies, including how and when to deploy automation to achieve maximum benefit. They will be part of delivering test automation results to projects and programs across the Department. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as an ability to work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Specific duties/responsibilities:

The Department has an established Test Automation framework for API and UI testing. Working under this framework the role will be responsible for:

  • Understanding medium to high-complexity IT Projects, conducting test automation assessments, and designing automated test scripts
  • Designing and implementing an efficient Test Automation Framework with continuous support that provides ROI efficiencies
  • Setting up execution schedules on farm machines, executing tests, analysing results, and preparing status reports to business stakeholders
  • Providing intermediate advice to team members, to help them overcome issues and meet test automation deliverable requirements
  • Providing training to junior staff that helps them to understand automation concepts, using a combination of demonstrations and support documentation.

Role requirements/qualifications:

  • Demonstrated seven years’ of integration or functional testing experience
  • Demonstrated strong automation expertise across the following tools:
    • UFT and LeanFT
    • Selenium
    • Rest Assured
    • SoapUI
    • JUnit\TestNG
    • Maven
    • MySQL
    • Jenkins
    • GIT
    • TFS
    • Cucumber (desirable).
  • Demonstrated experience in Java programing language
  • Demonstrated experience working with different delivery methodologies and concepts within integrated environments
  • Familiarity with DevOps and Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD)
  • Familiarity with different software development methodologies, including Waterfall, Agile, and hybrid methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience working with Test Driven Development, Behaviour Driven Development and Acceptance Test Driven Development processes.
  • Certification in Agile Development
  • Certification in DevOps Foundations
  • ISQTB Test Automation Engineer
  • Certification in one or more of the following tools:
    • UFT/LeanFT
    • Selenium
    • Rest Assured
    • SoapUI.
  • Experience in scripting for performance testing for the enablement of CI/CD and DevOps, preferably using NeoLoad. NeoLoad certification desirable.

  • Obtain and maintain a current Employment Suitability Clearance
  • Undergo a health assessment (where applicable).
