DTTI supports businesses to connect with overseas markets, create strong international relationships and capitalise on export opportunities, while at the same time, strengthening the South Australian economy through investment and creation of jobs.

The Role:

Reporting to the Manager, International Market Development, the Market Development Officer, North East Asia (NEA), is responsible for the provision of an efficient and effective project and planning function that supports the interactions between DTTI and the Tokyo, Japan trade and investment office to facilitate export and investment initiatives for the State.

Working in collaboration with staff of the South Australian trade and investment office in Tokyo, Japan and with DTTI international markets staff, you will facilitate the development and implementation of strategies and activities that drive trade and investment opportunities between South Australia and NEA.

To be successful in this position it is critical that you have an in-depth understanding of the Japanese and South Korean markets including the major issues, trends, developments, and their implications for South Australia to future directions, market access and international trade.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Acting as key point of contact in DTTI for the Tokyo, Japan office to liaise with DTTI, advise potential trade and investment leads and opportunities.
  • Conducting high-level, complex research and delivering business process improvement and program management activities which underpin and facilitate the achievement of agency business goals and objectives.
  • Developing and implementing administrative systems, tools and evaluation processes that provide critical and sensitive information and advice that influences the Division’s risk management and executive decision-making approach.
  • Contribute to ministerial and business missions and trade delegations, and deliver high level documents, briefings and ministerial responses that support South Australia’s growth agenda.

About you:

To be successful in this position you must have the following:

  • Broad knowledge of the Japanese, South Korean and South Australian economies and emerging issues, policies, programs, principles, practices and factors affecting economic and business growth, innovation, viability and sustainability.
  • Demonstrated and up to date knowledge of contemporary project management practices.
  • Proven ability to apply high level communication and interpersonal skills including recognising and considering stakeholder agendas, cultural and values differences.
  • Experience in successfully working within relevant cultural parameters and industry sectors.
  • Experience in carrying out high level research and analysis, including the presentation of detailed reports and presentations.
  • Coordinating projects and providing a key contact point, expert advice and information to a wide range of people and groups.

Desirable Qualification:

Business and international relations or related qualifications

Special Conditions:

Must have fluent Japanese language skills in reading, writing and verbal communication to fulfil this role.

Successful applicants may be required to obtain a satisfactory Department of Human Services Criminal History Check or National Police Check prior to employment. A renewal will be required every 3 years.
