Governance Specialist



Fixed Term Contract Three Years, Full-time or Part-time

The Governance Services Team is looking for a talented and enthusiastic legal professional to fill the position of Governance Specialist.  The City is seeking a high performing individual who is attracted to a fast-paced, challenging and professionally rewarding environment. 

With a substantial degree of autonomy and responsibility, the Governance Specialist will undertake research, develop policy and prepare reports and liaise with key stakeholders on legal and policy matters. The position will not service as in-house counsel, however a Bachelor of Laws and a minimum of seven years’ experience in a similar role is required.

Working as part of a specialised and dynamic governance team you will be responsible for:

  • Providing expert advice and support in relation to legal, governance and policy development to ensure that the City’s governance activities are carried out efficiently, effectively and in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Undertaking research, develop policy and prepare reports and liaise with key stakeholders on legal and policy matters.

Some qualifications and skills that are essential include the following:

  • A Bachelor of Laws degree and minimum of seven years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Extensive experience in the provision of legal advice within a public sector environment, particularly in the areas of local government and contract law.
  • Highly developed skills in the development and formulation of policies and reports.
  • Extensive experience providing support in the development and interpretation of legal documentation, agreements and contracts.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work in partnership with and provide excellent customer service to senior leaders, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Capability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and have the ability to adapt quickly to the organisation’s needs.

This position is Fixed Term Contract for three years and will be offered as a Part-time or Full-time arrangement with flexibility offered to the right individual. The Level 9 position attracts a pro-rata salary range of $107,380 - $114,512 gross per annum dependent on qualifications and experience.
