Residential Night Worker - Ferdy's Haven (Palm Island)
Full Time (Weekend - up to 12 Month contract with possible extension)

Ferdy’s Haven is looking for an experienced and qualified Residential Night Worker to join our team. You will be required to manage the Ferdy’s Haven facility including conducting physical patrols of buildings and grounds after normal operating hours. To supervise and manage the welfare of clients of the centre and to provide assistance and care to any client or staff member during emergencies as required during the course of the entire shift. This includes First Aid and CPR. This position will also manage all emergency evacuations including fire, natural disasters etc, until relevant assistance is available.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Has significant knowledge and understanding of the issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and individuals in contemporary society.
  • Previous experience in a relevant industry, service or an equivalent level of expertise and experience to undertake the range of activities required;
  • Ability to work with a team in ways that are respectful, transparent and acknowledging of individual’s skills, abilities and capacities.
  • All employees of TAIHS Residential Services must have the ability to develop, maintain and engage in client relationships that promote a safe and suitable environment that allows our clients to re-integrate with the community. This means that employees will demonstrate empathy (understanding pain), Diversity (accepting differences) and tolerance (patience) when dealing with clients.
  • Communicates effectively and appropriately with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the wider community.
  • Demonstrated ability to consult and negotiate positive outcomes in collaboration with residents, internal and external stakeholders;
  • Ability to work autonomously and display initiative, self-motivation, time management and solution focused skills.

Practical Requirements

  • Work out of normal hours of duty
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
  • Current Blue Card (working with children and young people) or willingness to apply for a Blue Card
  • Satisfactory Police Check – no Serious/Criminal/Court Record (if required)
  • First Aid Certificate
