Paintings And Objects Conservator

We have a vacancy for a Paintings & Paper Conservator at our conservation laboratory in Chatswood, Sydney.  This is a multidisciplinary role, with conservation treatments being undertaken in both the Easel Paintings and the Paper Teams.

Day to day activities include developing conservation methodologies in collaboration with team members, quoting and undertaking all technical aspects of conservation.  Other responsibilities may include project planning and implementation, job budget management, time management, subcontractor liaison, disaster response, and report writing.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3-6 years work experience in both the paintings and paper conservation disciplines (after graduation)
  • Excellent hands-on technical skills for a variety of project situations
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Ability to make positive contributions in a team environment and also work independently
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Sound working knowledge of, and commitment to, Occupational Health and Safety practices in the workplace
  • Commitment to providing excellent client service
  • Membership of the AICCM (Australian Institute for Conservation of Cultural Material) or equivalent other professional organisation, or eligibility to apply for membership
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office and basic photo applications
  • Drivers Licence
