About the Role The role involves contributing to the effective and efficient management of the development of land in the Shire, within the Cardinia Urban Growth Area along with providing expert statutory planning advice and support to Council, senior management and business unit customers.

In addition to the above your key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Process a variety of planning permit applications for subdivision and development within Urban Growth areas.
  • Process requests for amendments to permits, the approval of plans and the extension of planning permits.
  • Prepare and present submissions to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal in relation to applications for the review of a decision.
  • Assist in the processing of compliance with planning permits for subdivision and development in Urban Growth areas.
  • Assist with provision of statutory planning support to the preparation of Precinct Structure Plans, Planning Scheme schedules and Urban Design Frameworks in the Urban Growth area.
  • Provide information and advice in response to telephone and counter enquiries on planning matters within the Urban Growth area.
  • Prepare responses to written enquiries on planning matters within the Urban Growth area.
  • Provide assistance and support to management including briefings on issues, organising meetings, or other duties as appropriate.
  • Facilitate the implementation of Precinct Structure Plan, Development Contribution Plans and Urban Design Frameworks within Urban Growth Areas.
  • Provide assistance and advice to other Council service providers on planning matters.
  • Assist with administrative activities associated with the operation of the department including the maintenance of records and files.
  • Mentor and guide more junior staff, including managing Student Placement program.
  • Assist in the review and approval of delegate reports, including plans to comply, secondary consent and extension of time reports, written by junior staff.

About you

  • To succeed in this position, you will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of statutory planning processes including planning related legislation within the Growth Areas, such as Precinct Structure Plans.
  • You will have an understanding of the social, economic, environmental and political context of growth area planning issues.
  • Highly developed research, investigatory and analytical skills with the ability to communicate, and prepare concise reports and recommendations.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organise and manage your own time and workload including achieving specific outcomes within set time frames against conflicting priorities
