Corporate Communications Manager (Fixed Term Contract)

This is a 12 month Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) position.

Applicants must have a right to work in Australia as Google is currently unable to sponsor a visa for this position

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in business, policy, media or non-profit environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Writing experience.
  • Ability to think, plan and execute on multiple projects simultaneously in an organized fashion.
  • Ability to work with colleagues in different countries and appreciate cultural differences.
  • Ability to effectively advise executives, act as sounding board, and provide feedback.
  • Ability to help shape business priorities into a narrative.
  • Ability to work calmly and maintain good judgment in fast-paced environments.

About the job

As a member of the Global Communications & Public Affairs team, you will work cross-functionally to help communicate with journalists and other thought leaders; devise specific communications materials and campaigns; engage in face-to-face meetings with commentators and other opinion formers; and develop print and web-based material supporting these campaigns. We're looking for great communicators who can understand complex issues and explain them in person and also via well written, simple blog posts, FAQs, video scripts and more.

As a Corporate Communications Manager, you will help consumers, partners and key opinion formers know more and learn about our products and policies through creative and focused communications.

We help inform and educate users, advertisers, partners, opinion leaders-and our own employees-about the benefits of Google's products, our distinctive company culture/values and our approach to the big public policy issues of the day. You are quick-witted, entrepreneurial and intellectually curious. To succeed in this role, you'll you are willing to try new things and can manage numerous projects with tight deadlines. Things happen quickly at Google, and to do great work, you need to be an enthusiastic team player who can work cross-functionally with partners across PR, comms, marketing, product and beyond.

  • Handle media relations and drive corporate communications activities for Google in Australia and New Zealand, representing Google as a company spokesperson for a wide variety of media inquiries.
  • Collaborate with Google Product, Business, Legal, Policy and Marketing teams to create proactive communications strategies and handle reactive media inquiries to convey Google’s point of view and and key benefits of our products and services.
  • Develop productive relationships with media, journalists, opinion formers and key partners in Australia and New Zealand.
  • Develop written materials and content, including story pitches, messaging, blog posts and social assets, Q&As, presentations and speeches. Provide advice to company officials for media interactions and presentations.
  • Manage a PR agency to help support day-to-day activities, special projects and events.
