Risk Analyst Intern - portfolio reporting and analytics - six month part-time opportunity

What are we looking for?

An exciting and challenging opportunity is available to join a dynamic team actively engaged in the credit risk management of Australia's largest Mortgage Insurance portfolio . This position will help drive the risk management of the LMI portfolio through effective risk analysis, data profiling and reporting.

The role requires an analytical background and will involve the production and development of effective reporting and analysis to aid the management of portfolio risk.

What you can expect from the role

  • Ownership of regular and bespoke risk analysis tasks in support of credit quality objectives.
  • Interrogation of key data sources to produce Management Information.
  • Drive proactive analysis to identify any emerging adverse trends, concentration issues or credit quality concerns.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on various aspects of system and portfolio performance for risk management purposes.
  • Ensure continuous improvement for the ongoing review and development of risk reports, analytical tools and models to support the business.
  • Drill into the LMI portfolio to understand trends in credit quality and performance over time.
  • Prepare analysis for review by the risk management team.
  • Analyse trends in the Australian property market and the wider economy.
  • Use problem solving and analytical skills to identify opportunities for risk management improvements (reports, analytical tools, data processes).
  • Support internal/external business initiatives that enhance the credit risk management of the LMI portfolio.
  • Work with stakeholders across the business to ensure close partner engagement.
  • Liaise with international analytics teams to leverage and share best practice
  • Adhere to the compliance obligations relevant to the position; perform duties in an ethical, lawful and safe manner; undertake training as directed by the Compliance Leader; report and escalate compliance concerns, issues and failures; and disclose potential conflicts of interest.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Be a current undergraduate student studying economics, statistics, data science or equivalent.
  • Highly numerate with an analytical approach to problem solving. Ability to identify issues and trends from varied sources of information.
  • Intermediate PC skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Experience with SQL/SAS programming – Intermediate.
  • Experience with R/Python – advantageous but not a must
  • Good planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively .
  • Highly motivated with excellent interpersonal skills. Able to communicate with a range of stakeholders, both verbally and in writing .
