Crisis Accommodation Worker (Casual)

The role

Samaritans Youth Homelessness Support Services are searching for a Crisis Accommodation Worker/ Youth Worker to join the team, based at Maitland & Elermore Vale refuges on a casual basis. 24hr roster is required

The Crisis Accommodation Worker/ Youth Worker supports the goals of Samaritans Youth Homelessness Support Services, with a person centred and collaborative approach in working with young people who are in crisis to provide them with safe and secure accommodation, together with supporting them to secure and access safe housing.

  • Able to develop good rapport with young people and are keen to identify ways to improve our service.

Essential Criteria

  • A certificate, Associate Diploma or bachelor in Youth work/Community Welfare/ Social Work or equivalent experience
  • Experience in, or demonstrated commitment to, actively supporting young people at risk of homelessness
  • Demonstrated capacity to utilise a strength based and trauma informed care approach in supporting young people experiencing disadvantage
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to child protection legislation
  • Demonstrated positive communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Commitment to the rights and responsibilities of young people
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to work within a team
  • Willingness to work shift work including evenings, overnight shifts, weekends and public holidays

The successful applicant must also possess a current NSW Working with Children Check, a current Provide First Aid certificate, undertake a Criminal Record Check and hold a current/ valid NSW Drivers Licence.
