Our teams provide fire prevention, respond to hazardous materials incidents, natural disasters and medical emergencies, and undertake counter terrorism and urban search and rescue operations. The Assistant Commissioner Community Safety is responsible for setting strategic direction of state-wide fire prevention functions for industry and the community.

The role is also accountable for driving organisational capacity to prevent emergencies through the delivery of building regulatory functions, developing fire research programs and driving change to industry and the community to reduce the impact of fire activities.  

High quality candidates will have post graduate tertiary qualifications in Business Management and/or significant experience in the discipline coupled with relevant emergency management qualifications to enable fulfilment of legislative and operational requirements of the role.

Specific experience should include:

·       extensive knowledge of contemporary issues, challenges and approaches to emergency service and fire prevention and suppression and community resilience within the national and international arena.

·       Experience in the management of large-scale emergency situations and the ability to strategically plan and implement proactive strategies for preventative emergency response.

The successful candidate must demonstrate advance capabilities in personal integrity, influence and negotiate, work collaboratively, plan and prioritise and finance and adept capability in Procurement and contract management.  The ability to manage and develop people and inspire direction and purpose will be fundamental in succeeding in the role.
