About the Functional Genetics and Functional Cancer Genomic Laboratories:
The Functional Genetics and Functional Cancer Genomic laboratories aim to understand how genetic variants located in noncoding regions of the genome confer an increased risk of developing breast cancer.
Role Purpose / Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have a strong track record in molecular biology, CRISPR genome editing, chromatin based techniques and animal research.
The following duties will apply:
- To work as part of a research team to elucidate how noncoding RNAs contribute to breast cancer development.
- To design libraries of guides targeting noncoding RNAs for CRISPR/Cas13 screening.
- If necessary, to develop tools and pipelines for library design.
- To analyse the cellular responses of individual noncoding RNAs using computational techniques.
- To develop ideas independently, develop strategies analyse and interpret data experimental data.
- To document results, computational protocols and their outcomes in a timely manner.
- Produce high impact publications in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at internal and external scientific meetings.
- Ensure work practices comply with the requirements of the Work Health and Safety Act, related legislative requirements and the Institute’s WH&S policies and procedures.
This positon is looking for a candidate with the following attributes:
- Ph.D (with 0-3 years of experience) from an accredited university in bioinformatics and/or computational biology or related discipline.
- Experience in computational programming.
- Substantial experience with a broad range of computational tools and techniques to analyse data from NextGen sequencing, CRISPR experiments and other genomic/transcriptomic assays.
- Understand high-throughput techniques such as HiC methodologies, ChIP-seq and ChIRP-seq
- Possess knowledge in analyses of genome editing (CRISPR).
- Should demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and have the ability to work well within established collaborative teams.
- Solid track record of independent research.
- Highly self-motivated and career oriented individual, having a genuine interest in addressing the mechanisms underlying cancer development.
- Experience with analyses of CRISPR screening.
- Experience on noncoding RNAs.
- Substantial experience in high-throughput techniques such as HiC, ChIP-seq and ChIRP-seq.
- A good understanding of computational biology (scRNAseq).
Remuneration: Salary range is $82,506 to $88,522 p.a. plus super and salary packaging. This is a two year, full-time appointment.
