Legal Counsel

UnitingCare is seeking the expertise of an experienced Legal Counsel to join their internal team.

UnitingCare provides health and community services to thousands of people every day of the year through its services – UnitingCare Health (The Wesley Hospital, St Andrews War Memorial Hospital, Buderim Private Hospital and St Stephens Hospital), UnitingCare Community’s family and disability services, Lifeline, Blue Care and ARRCS (Australian Regional and Remote Community Services).

As the care arm of the Uniting Church, UnitingCare has over a 100 year legacy of providing support to thousands of Queenslanders across the state and into the Northern Territory.

As Legal Counsel, you will act as a key advisor to UnitingCare’s service streams. Core duties and accountabilities will include:

  • Negotiating and drafting contracts;
  • Drafting and maintenance of precedents;
  • Providing legal advice and expertise regarding legal risk, privacy, procurement, compliance and regulatory matters across the UnitingCare’s services;
  • Instructing on and managing matters with external counsel;
  • Assist with property transactions, leases and other property related matters; and
  • Attending any court or tribunal attendances as required.

Your skills & experience:
With 3-5 years post admission experience in Commercial/Corporate Law, Commercial Litigation, or Health Law you will have:

  • Bachelor of Laws and be admitted to practice as a solicitor in Queensland;
  • Experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts;
  • Knowledge of contract management lifecycle and commercial law;
  • Knowledge of, or a keen interest in, personal injury and medico-legal matters;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels; and
  • Aged care or health law experience desirable but not necessary.
