About the team

The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) Group provides a range of financial and operational services which enables the department to deliver its strategic objectives. Its services cover financial management, the Budget process, procurement, property, fleet management, protective security and the Shared Services Hub. In these areas, the group develops and manages the department’s financial and operational processes, policies and services consistent with the relevant Australian Government framework. The Finance Project Team is part of the CFO Group and is responsible for providing direction and plans to increase capability in finance and business acumen across the department and for managing finance projects to improve processes, systems and financial reporting and to implement organisational/structural and financial policy changes.

Our ideal candidate

We are seeking a confident, dynamic and self-motivated individual who has:

  • developed and implemented a framework to build strong capability in finance and business acumen across a large organisation
  • sound knowledge of the APS Building Capability Framework
  • understanding of the Commonwealth’s Resource Management Framework
  • strong written and verbal communication skills
  • excellent interpersonal skills and ability to form productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • the ability to adapt well in a changing environment
  • well-developed organisation and time management skills and is a team player
  • strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
What you will do

In this role, you will:

  • develop and implement a framework which addresses the capability needs for finance staff and the financial literacy needs of the broader organisation
  • manage the ongoing delivery of the framework
  • manage the financial management content on the intranet which includes improving the presence of the content, coordinating content development and updates with policy owner
  • work effectively within a small team and contribute to the delivery of other projects within the department’s overarching Financial Management Strategy
  • represent the department in finance related internal and external committees, forums and focus groups as required.
Eligibility

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.

Security Clearance

This position requires a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Notes

This recruitment process is being used to fill an ongoing Executive Level 1 position. A merit pool may be established to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing Executive Level 1 vacancies should they become available within 12 months from the date advertised.
