Transport for NSW is responsible for coordinating transport services used by over 7.5 million residents, 800,000 businesses and 30 million visitors every year. The Infrastructure and Place division is charged with the delivery of an ambitious and once-in-a generation $50 billion program of public infrastructure works. We are developing and delivering smart, integrated and sustainable infrastructure and places that are valued by our customers and communities.
Right now, we have an opportunity for an Environment Officer to join the Safety, Environment and Regulation (SER) division on a full time fixed term opportunity for 5 years. This position is based in North Sydney and will support the Western Harbour Tunnel project.
The SER division leads policy, strategy, standards, advice and support across safety, environment, sustainability, asset management and regulatory outcomes for customers, for community and for our people.
This role will see you as the expert providing advice and assistance to staff and TfNSW contractors on a range of environmental planning, environmental management, assessment and compliance requirements for TfNSW activities to achieve required Government environmental outcomes and meet the expectations of the community of New South Wales.
What you will be involved in:
In this role you will support the delivery of Infrastructure projects by ensuring consistent application of environmental legislation, transport environmental policy and procedures. You will provide advice and assist in the development and implementation of practical and effective environmental strategies. You will give advice to project staff on their environmental responsibilities where necessary. You will also be required to visit the site regularly to perform environmental inspections ensuring we promote continuous environmental improvements.
You are a tertiary qualified in environmental science, environmental planning or equivalent with the ability to develop robust and balanced environmental strategies. You will also be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 together with the NSW and federal environmental regulatory framework. You will be an environmental subject matter expert with the ability to drive performance and improvement across the division. Excellent communication skills and the ability to form strong relationships is essential for this opportunity.

Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position is Grade 9 ($114,601 - $123,199) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
