Network Communications Specialist

An exciting opportunity exists for a Network Communications Specialist – Level 1 with a strong interest in and commitment to voice and data networking to join the very experienced and dedicated Network Communications team
This position will be primarily based at a single site however will require some travel to any sites within NSLHD and/or CCLHD. The primary site for this position will be agreed at the time of appointment and periodically as required with IT Operations Management.
The incumbent will provide and may be required to participate in a 24/7 oncall support roster.

What you'll be doing
The position of Network Communications Specialist Level 1 exists within the IT Operations portfolio of the Information Communications & Technology Directorate of the Northern Sydney and Central Coast Local Health Districts (NSLHD and CCLHD).

The Network Communications Specialist Level 1 provides technical knowledge and support and acts as the first point of escalation for support issues.They will participate in activities that support and maintain the ICT services and network of both LHDs and contribute to them operating at maximum availability.

The incumbent may also from time to time be required to contribute to related projects such that they are delivered on time and in-line with the organisation’s business plan and within the operational and project budget.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills with ability to write reports and present findings, and excellent customer service orientation with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively identify, investigate and respond to security incidents or weaknesses in the organisation’s security with some experience in assisting with the development of appropriate solutions
  • Knowledge of complex network environments, conducting network operations and fault diagnosis tasks with an awareness of server technologies and concepts
  • Experience in voice communications networks and related peripheral systems, voice networking concepts, interfaces and technologies, especially VoIP in a large business environments, with understanding of PABX peripheral systems such as voice mail and call accounting systems
  • Good skill in configuration and implementation of Cisco switches and routers and experience in design and implementation of security systems including Cisco ASA Firewalls, Cisco IOS ISE, Access Lists and IPSEC based VPNs
  • Knowledge of Layer 2, 3, and 4 Cisco Switching implementations and [descriptor] the operation of network analysis equipment with ability to interpret packet traces to assist in fault diagnoses and resolution
  • Good knowledge of cabling infrastructure and current cabling standards and using cable test equipment (e.g. Time Domain Reflectometers) for cable testing and validation
