Risk And Compliance Officer


Funds SA is a South Australian Government corporation which invests and manages over AUD$34 billion on behalf of South Australian public sector superannuation funds and approved public authorities.

This presents as an exciting and rare chance in Adelaide to work closely with the Executive Manager and Manager of Governance, Risk and Compliance in effectively building a best-practise risk & compliance function for the corporation.

As the Risk and Compliance Officer, you will assist with the development and implementation of the operational framework and processes to support the business in meeting its legislative obligations.

The role requires a disciplined and organised approach to regular and structured risk and compliance activities while maintaining a focus on continuous improvement in alignment with Funds SA’s strategic objectives.

Reporting directly to the Manager, Governance, Risk and Compliance, the key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the refinement of a Risk and Compliance Framework in line with legislative requirements
  • Assisting with the development of new policies and procedures
  • Assisting with identification and management of compliance risk across all business divisions and report on compliance activities
  • Conducting reviews across the business and monitor completion of internal control tasks
  • Maintaining the Corporate Risk Register
  • The development and presentation of reports to Senior Management
  • Providing consultative advice to the management team across the business regarding Risk & Compliance obligations and key operational frameworks
  • Undertaking controls-related testing
  • Enhancing key processes and guidelines for employees
  • Assisting with the due diligence reviews on investment managers
  • Investigating and resolving all Investment Management Agreement (IMA) potential breaches by liaising with stakeholders and report any active breaches
  • Coordinating risk reporting for the Audit and Risk Committee
  • Collaborating with key internal stakeholders of the business to build engagement in the Risk and Compliance Framework

Key requirements to be successful in this role:

  • Relevant experience within a mature risk and compliance environment within a finance or investments industry
  • Demonstrated experience assisting and implementing risk and compliance frameworks
  • Formal report writing skills for audiences consisting of Senior Managers, Committees and Board/s
  • Sound knowledge of contemporary business systems, processes and relevant risk controls
  • An understanding of APRA Prudential Standards and ability to interpret relevant legislation and industry standards would be advantageous.

You will be a self-motivated individual with a committed work ethic and the ability to build cohesive stakeholder relationships across internal and external partnerships. This is an integral role as you will contribute to the continued success in building a best-practise operational risk and compliance function.
