Medical Secretary For Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Clinic / Day Surgery

Medical Secretary required for an amazing new Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Clinic / Day Hospital located in Southport on the Gold Coast. 

The facility occupies the entire top floor of the building and is located in Southport Central surrounded by shops and restaurants making it a fantastic place to work and enjoy your lunch breaks.

Immediate start is ideal but the right candidate may be able to start after a notice period if currently working elsewhere. The practice is an established Orthopaedic Surgical Practice, which has expanded into a brand new, purpose built Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine consulting and Day Hospital facility. 

The unique nature of the practice with onsite imaging, image guided procedures and in-office surgery make this role unique and stimulating for the right applicant.

The office has its own fully equipped operating theatre and most surgeries are performed in the facility.

The office is in a great location and the business has plans for further expansion and the development of other facilities. Opportunity exists for career advancement over time.

Assisting with the duties of the existing reception staff will also be expected and will include answering phone calls, taking messages, typing dictated letters and helping to run clinics. Office opening and closing, as well as general tidying of the practice will be expected.

Duties will also include managing staff, debt collection and billing for surgery. The successful applicant will also be expected to financially consent patients prior to surgery and help liaise with patients, anaesthetists, assistants, hospitals and orthopaedic reps to organise theatre lists.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in clinical support for ultrasound-guided interventions such as injections and minor surgical procedures in the operating theatre. The successful applicant must also be willing to learn how to setup for these procedures and appropriate training by the nursing staff and doctor will be undertaken to prepare you for this additional role.

Cleaning and sterilisation of instruments would be expected as part of the role. Training in the operation of the sterilisation equipment will be provided. Previous experience in a CSD (Central Sterilising Department) would be advantageous but is not essential. A registered or enrolled nursing background would be helpful.

Extensive knowledge of Medicare, DVA, Private Health Funds and Work Cover is expected.

Prior experience with Genie Practice Management Software would be ideal.

The role would initially be casual but could lead to a permanent position for the right applicant.
