About Perioperative Services at Monash Health

Monash Health is an impressive organisation of seven public hospitals, 21 community health sites, five aged care facilities, university affiliated international research and tertiary education. We provide healthcare for the entire lifespan from pre-birth to palliative care and all stages in between.

In 26 operating theatres, we support elective and emergency surgeries in all adult, obstetric and paediatric specialties, providing care for patients through a wide range of cases along with the support of our site specific intensive care units.  We also deliver services around the network, including acute and chronic pain services, pre-anaesthetic clinics, endoscopy, radiology, cardiology cath lab & support our ECT suite.

About the Program

Positions are currently available across Monash Health Operating Suites at Clayton, Monash Children’s, Casey and Dandenong campuses for Registered Nurses with an interest in Perioperative services with minimal or no Theatre experience. This program gives an opportunity to consolidate your learnt theory and gain significant skills within a supportive, clinical environment.  Monash Children’s is excited to offer 2 TSP positions for the first time this year and this will be a specialist placement within the expanding Monash Children’s Operating Theatres.

Participants rotate through Instrument, Circulating, Anaesthesia and Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) areas, learning the nursing roles at each site, whilst completing a series of learning activities. You will be required to attend 10 study days and undertake a range of academic assessments e.g. a video presentation, written assignments and examinations.

Due to start in February 2021 for a Fixed Term period of 12 months, the rostered hours within the program will be Full Time working across 76 hours per fortnight.

About You

For consideration of this role you will need:

  • Demonstrated Nursing experience, minimum completion of Graduate Nursing Program (GNP)
  • Australian working rights/relevant visa
  • Current AHPRA registration

Following successful completion of the first six months of the Perioperative TSP program, participants will be expected to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning to commence Trimester 2 at Deakin University, enrolling in  the Master of Nursing Practice (Perioperative).  Successful completion of the 12 months will allow for the Graduate Certificate of Nursing Practice (Perioperative) to be obtained
