What’s on offer?

The AHO delivers the Services Our Way (SOW) program across 17 LGAs in NSW. SOW is an Aboriginal client-led trauma informed support coordination service for vulnerable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and families. It provides culturally appropriate advocacy and service coordination, with a client and family centered approach.

As the Western Sydney Place Manager, you’ll have impact through:

  • Provision of specialist advice, management and leadership to enable successful local implementation of SOW projects and programs to ensure it delivers effective services and options to Aboriginal people and communities.
  • Building partnerships with government and non-government stakeholders to facilitate a collaborative approach in the implementation service models that meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and families

What we are looking for

You will share our vision of ensuring every Aboriginal person in NSW has equal access to, and choice in, affordable housing, and supporting vulnerable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and families.

You’ll be a welcomed and valued member of the team. Essential requirements to be successful in this role are:

  • Aboriginality. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14 (d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline and/or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Aboriginal cultural beliefs and attitudes and of the socio-economic position of Aboriginal people within Australian society, and of their impacts in relation to housing including the specific needs and disadvantages experienced by Aboriginal Communities

Appointments are subject to reference checks. Some roles may also require the following checks/ clearances:

  • National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
  • Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012

The AHO is a statutory authority, established under the Aboriginal Housing Act 1998 (NSW) and plans, administers and expands the policies, program and asset base for Aboriginal housing in NSW.
