About the team

SafeWork NSW is the state’s workplace health and safety regulator. Our focus is to reduce work related fatalities, serious injuries and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety legislation and improving the safety culture in NSW workplaces.

Our ideal candidate will have strong technical industry knowledge, practical workplace safety experience and safety related qualifications. You will apply your industry experience and qualifications to work in partnership with NSW workplaces to assist them in creating and maintaining work health and safety standards so that workers return home safely each day.

About the role

As an Inspector in Investigations & Emergency Response you will be responsible for undertaking SafeWork’s incident response, investigations, enforceable undertakings and state emergency management functions.

You will work with NSW businesses to assist them in creating and maintaining workplaces where their workers return home safely each day.

  • You will provide advice regarding safe work practices and how to comply with work health and safety legislation
  • You will conduct workplace visits and investigations into serious workplace incidents and where required, provide specialist advice regarding compliance with WHS legislation

  • work a 38-hour working week, including some weekends, and participate in the After-Hours Emergency Response Service
  • receive an attractive salary package along with a tool of trade vehicle provided and access to private use (currently at a cost of $200 per fortnight)
  • be able to access flexible working within operational requirements
  • undertake the 12-month New Inspector Training Program (NITP). This intensive program is delivered by our Registered Training Organisation and combines mandatory components of induction, class training, online learning, completion of set assessments and tasks, and extensive on-the-job field training with regular travel throughout NSW

To be successful, you will have:

  • Equivalent relevant qualifications and experience in work health and safety, statutory investigations, or the administration of regulatory frameworks
  • Strong communication skills to engage and influence key stakeholders to improve regulatory outcomes
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Well established resilience skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team
  • High level written communication skills and an ability to understand comprehensive and/or technical reports
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a timely manner
  • Solid knowledge and use of technology

Essential requirements

  • Ability to travel, work remotely and out of usual business hours
  • Regular travel throughout NSW with the occasional interstate travel
  • Hold a NSW ‘C’ class drivers licence with a satisfactory safe driving record and a requirement to maintain the safe driving record throughout employment
  • Satisfactory criminal record check
  • Satisfactory medical assessment capacity in regard to physical and psychological impacts of the inherent duties of the role
  • Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection) to be completed within 12 months of commencement

Salary Grade Inspector level 1-3, with the base salary for this role starting at?$99,521 base plus superannuation.
