About Department

The Support Services division manages a team of over (350 staff) and provides a range of services including campus cleaning, Support Services Assistants (SSA’s) ward Clerical teams. Car parking, waste management, patient transport and a patient food production kitchen and service. Our division extends across SVHM Fitzroy, St Vincent’s- on the Park (SVOTP) East Melbourne and St Georges Health Service (Kew) sites

About the Role

The successful candidate will be part of a team of Coordinators that are responsible for the provision of front line management to a large Support Services Assistant team (SSA). The unit based SSA teams provide ward and patient room cleaning, patient transport, meal and beverage delivery and other patient services. The ideal person will be able to demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and the ability to communicate with staff across all levels of the organization.

The position will be located part of the week at our East Melbourne site and weekends at our Fitzroy site.

The classification for this role will be HS4 ($83,657 Per Annum)


  • Lead and direct the daily kitchen, ward support, cleaning and porter teams on a daily basis to ensure that services are delivered in an efficient, cost effective manger

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of rosters in line with EBA and budgetary guidelines

  • Lead and extend the SSA Reliever and casual staffing teams to ensure adequate numbers of suitably qualified staff to support all services

  • Foster collaborative working relationships through effective recruitment, training and ongoing development of the staff

  • Implement and promote processes and procedures that drive workplace change and realize opportunities for improvement that keeps the teams at industry best practice

  • Monitor service contracts on the St Vincent’s on the park ensuring service delivery to established service agreements and budget, in particular the waste management

  • Assist in the management of deliveries to the St Vincent’s on the Park site

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Clear understanding and experience in cleaning and support services imperatives in a health care setting

  • Demonstrated effective people management skills

  • Proven skills in preparation of staff rosters to deliver service requirements within budget

  • Clear understanding of the Department of Health Cleaning Standards for Victorian Public Hospitals 2011

  • Strong computer literacy, in particular with Microsoft Office applications and able adapt to new programs quickly

  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and implement effective solutions

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and promote collaboration with all internal and external stakeholders
