About the role:

The Field Catering Unit (FCU) provides meals and refreshments to Victoria Police personnel at planned and unplanned operations throughout Victoria including major emergencies. The FCU is staffed by a manager and three operatives who are responsible for this task. A member from the FCU is ‘on call' each night and provides an after-hours response to requests for assistance. Members are rostered ‘on call' on a rotational basis. The successful applicant will be required on occasion to stay away overnight, sometimes in remote areas. The FCU has two trucks which contain fully equipped commercial kitchens. You will be required to drive these vehicles to locations throughout Victoria. FCU staff are subject to short notice roster changes and must be flexible and adaptable to these changes.

Your duties will include:

  • Plan and prepare meals with attention to dietary requirements, a high standard of nutrition and quality, and in a manner which acknowledges the needs of individuals and groups in a field services environment.
  • Drive FCU vehicles and operate modern catering equipment, at scenes of major Police operations throughout Victoria.
  • Provide Field Catering services, operating independently or part of a team and attend as required, often at short notice.
  • Ensure that FCU equipment and vehicles are maintained in a clean, hygienic and safe condition by complying with all food safety plans and health regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Conduct stocktake of stores and food to ensure stock levels are maintained.
  • Provide advice to stakeholders relating to requests for service and menus.


As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Basic Food Handling Certificate.
  • Hold a Medium Rigid Vehicle licence (Mandatory) and possession of a Current National Driver Work Diary with current experience.


Requirements and relevant information:

  • The position is primarily located in Brunswick, Victoria.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • The incumbent will be required to work rostered hours, shift work, some public holidays and weekends. Shift allowances will be paid in accordance with the relevant Victorian Public Service Agreement.
  • The successful candidate will be required to possess a current Victorian Driver Licence and hold or qualify for an appropriate Victoria Police driving authority within three (3) months.
  • Intrastate and Interstate travel may be required on occassion, including overnight stays.
