Technical Officer, Biodiversity Sampling

  • Temporary, full-time role (up to 3 years)
  • Based at the Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan
  • Salary from $59,211 + superannuation

About the role

As the Biodiversity Sampling Officer, you will be responsible for coordinating acquisition and field collection of plant material throughout NSW, including plant material for DNA studies, seed and herbarium specimens. You will also assist with research fieldwork, curation of specimens, laboratory research and collection of data related to plant conservation projects in the Science, Education and Conservation branch.

About you

Presenting with a strong knowledge of the Australian Flora, you will possess good field collecting/botanical skills and will be able to work state-wide, planning and implementing the NSW-wide plant collecting program. You will enjoy a mixture of both being out in the field, as well as seed processing and managing the back of house elements as well.

You will be confident providing advice and guidance at all levels and will have strong stakeholder engagement skills. Experience in collecting and processing plant material for DNA research as well as scientific data collection, manipulation and management experience will be advantageous for this position.

In order to be considered for this role, you will need to provide evidence of the following:

  • Relevant qualification in Biological Sciences.
  • Current First Aid (HLTAID003) qualification or equivalent.
  • Current Australian driver’s licence with the ability to drive manual vehicles and willingness to undertake remote fieldwork trips for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work outside of normal working hours and on weekends if required.
