The Program

The overarching philosophy of the Unaccompanied Humanitarian Minors (UHM) program is to provide services to refugee minors in Australia (0-18). This is done through providing accommodation, care, welfare, and settlement services to individuals and sibling groups who are entering Australia. The program aims to provide holistic care to children and young people with torture and trauma backgrounds, language barriers, disabilities, low mental health, and educational needs. Taking into account their diverse and complex needs to provide sustainable transition to independence.

The Role - 12 month contract

The Manager, Unaccompanied Humanitarian Minors is tasked with building and implementing the program structure in the first twelve months, then leading the care teams to deliver high quality holistic, restorative and culturally responsive services. The position will ensure effective service delivery management including, appropriate allocation of placements and staff to accommodation houses. Working closely with the Senior Manager in the delivery and development of the service, management of budgets and workforce planning.

Duties will include

  • Managing a multi-disciplinary team to best achieve client outcomes
  • Liaising with internal and external Stakeholders
  • Overseeing the safety of all clients through managing care concerns and incidents
  • Supporting staff with supervision and appropriate debriefing after critical incidents
  • Coordinating therapeutic and allied health services

Our ideal candidate has

  • Demonstrated Management experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or Social Sciences
  • Experience in working with vulnerable and at risk children, young people and adults with special needs and/or challenging behaviours
  • Demonstrated knowledge of client centred and trauma informed practice, including CALD backgrounds
  • Evidence of effective stakeholder relationship management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage large teams operating on a 24/7 basis
  • An innovative outlook on life providing ‘out of the box’ solutions
  • A politically astute perspective

Specific employment requirements

  • A valid full South Australia driver’s license (C Class)
  • A valid DCSI: Child-Related Employment Screening or Working With Children Check
  • Training – Apply First Aid (min HLTAID003)
  • Training – Child Safe Environments
  • Ability to work outside of normal office hours will be required
  • Travel within South Australia and interstate would be required
  • The position will have access to a BCSA pool vehicle for work purposes, use of personal vehicle is required.
