Primary objective:
Under the direction of the Senior Ranger and the guidance of more experienced staff, assist with land management, nature

conservation and visitor management activities to support the delivery of targeted high quality park management outcomes.

Key duties and responsibilities:
1. For a park or group of parks, work with a small team to assist in the delivery of: land management and conservation

programs to protect natural and cultural values; visitor management and interpretive programs to ensure public safety and

visitor experience; public recreation and education programs; and assist to administer first aid and initiate emergency

response procedures.

2. Interact effectively with key stakeholders, including Aboriginal Joint Management partners, tourism operators and

neighbouring landholders.

3. Exercise delegated powers under the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976 and other relevant legislation,

and human resource and financial delegations relevant to the position.

Selection criteria:
1. Understanding of the role of a Ranger and basic natural resource management techniques.

2. Ability to work as part of a small, culturally diverse team and to interact positively and communicate with other staff, the

public and stakeholders, including Aboriginal people.

3. Self-motivated and organised with the ability to solve problems using initiative and flexibility to work to a program.

4. Ability to meet the physical challenges of working as a Ranger in the Northern Territory, including the ability to live, work

and travel in a remote locality and to undertake training appropriate to the position.

5. Knowledge of vehicle and/or vessel, plant and equipment operation and maintenance.

6. Current “C” class NT drivers licence and First Aid Certificate, or ability to obtain.

7. Ability to operate within a strong safety culture and to follow work health safety and equal employment opportunity


1. Technical skills/formal training relevant to the position (e.g. fire management, maintenance, welding, fencing, computer

skills) and/or a relevant Certificate III are highly desirable.

Further information:
Rangers may be required to transfer to any park or reserve in the NT and work to a roster, including on weekends and public

holidays. The majority of duties required of the position are conducted in the field, often in physically challenging environments.
