About Your Role

We are looking to hire an experienced Configuration Management Lead for Maritime business segment of Thales Australia to be based in Garden Island. Our Ship Repair Services at Garden Island site is the largest ship repair and maintenance graving dock in the Southern Hemisphere; the Captain Cook Graving Dock (CCGD).

Thales was entrusted by the Commonwealth of Australia to operate and maintain key areas of the Garden Island Naval Base in support of the Royal Australian Navy. In this time, Thales has replaced or upgraded key assets, such as a 65-ton capacity fixed dock side crane, HV electricity sub-stations and dry dock civil infrastructure. Thales also delivers reticulated services (power, water, sewer and compressed air) to the dock, wharves and broader Garden Island Precinct and has modernised safety and environmental management procedures. Thales also repairs and maintains a wide array of commercial vessels such as tug boats, cruise ship, workboats, ferries (such as Spirit of Tasmania I and II), dredges and super yachts in the dock and in an alongside capacity

This role will give you the opportunity to build the Configuration management function from scratch for this particular team/project and will see you be the Subject Matter Expert for this programme. As a Configuration Management Lead, you are accountable for managing multiple assigned tasks by engaging with internal and external stakeholders to achieve task outcomes. You will be completing assigned configuration tasks including configuration procedures, work instructions etc to the required quality within time and cost constraints.

  • Develop, implement and maintain the Configuration Baseline and integrate the Data Management plans, processes and procedures for the project in accordance with contractual requirements

  • Maintain the Physical baseline to manage the data, change and baselines for the project in accordance with the project requirements

  • Coordinate configuration management baseline updates, ensuring baseline updates are timely and in accordance with the project configuration management plan

  • Assist with engineering design and product baseline change sign off activities in the project configuration tool

  • Conduct interrogation, validation and assurance activities of the configuration management data, ensuring technical data completeness and correctness

  • Provide advice, support and training as a configuration management subject matter expert

  • Collaborate with project engineers to resolve configuration management issues & work with stakeholders in pursuit of effective engineering change management

  • Develop training for the Configuration and Data Management processes and procedures, and deliver the training to the project team

How About You?

  • Strong Configuration control/configuration management experience in an engineering environment

  • Experience/management/implementation of Asset Management (ISO 55000)

  • Experience utilising configuration management systems, tools and an understanding of the principles of best practice in technical data management

  • Strong skills using various Configuration tools and the ability to work with large data sets

  • Attention to detail, sound communication skills with the ability to develop effective relationships with stakeholders

  • Understanding of Defence user community and associated operational environment & experience in Infrastructure systems or commercial marine platform systems highly desirable
