An exciting opportunity is available to expand and enhance your social work skills at South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence (SECASA). We are seeking a Counsellor/Advocate to work therapeutically with victim survivors of sexual assault and/or family violence. You will have experience in working with complex trauma, using frameworks of intersectionality, gender equality and a human rights based approach. You will have a thorough understanding of the personal and political dynamics of sexual assault and family violence. You will be an excellent communicator, committed to collaborative work with key agencies to enhance safety and wellbeing for victim survivors, and value contributing to a resilient team.

The South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence (SECASA) provides sexual assault and family violence therapeutic support services and advocacy across nine locations within south eastern metropolitan region of Melbourne. SECASA delivers a wide range of services including individual and group counselling, advocacy, crisis support, and community education prioritising the empowerment of victim survivors.

About the Role:

  • Provision of high quality therapeutic interventions to victim survivors of sexual assault and/or family violence and their supportive family members, including individual counselling and advocacy, and group work
  • Undertake risk assessments and support safety as appropriate, including referrals and collaborative working with key agencies and the service sector
  • Develop and provision of interventions in individual, family and group contexts
  • Participation on business hours Intake roster, to provide initial assessment, receipt of referrals to SECASA, secondary consults, provision of Crisis Response service and support
  • Participation in after hours Crisis Response roster
  • Located at Peninsula Sexual Assault Centre (Multi-disciplinary centre)
  • You will be eligible membership of AASW with CPE
