Employee Relations Advisor

The Employee Relations Advisory Service, as part of the People and Culture Directorate, promotes best practice employee relations to support the engagement of employees in achieving the organisation’s strategic objectives.


As Employee Relations Advisor, you will join a small team of ER specialists providing expert advice, coaching and support to line managers and employees on the full range of employee relations issues. Your primary objective will be to ensure a fair and consistent application of Austin’s policies and procedures to promote a positive employee relations culture.


Key areas of responsibility for this role will include:


  • Providing industrial relations advice to the organisation to ensure legislative compliance

  • Coaching and supporting line managers to address performance and conduct issues, and applying the disciplinary process where required

  • Coaching and supporting line managers on investigations into allegations of unfair treatment, discrimination, bullying and harassment and providing advice to resolve issues and mitigate risks

  • Developing toolkits and support materials to facilitate management development and capability uplift on employee relations issues

  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Union representatives, to promote positive employee relations across the organisation.

The successful candidate will have proven skills and experience in the following areas:


  • Interpretation and application of relevant employment legislation in a broad range of situations

  • Prior experience in an HR/ER advisory role, developing effective strategies, solutions and interventions to address the full range of employee relations matters

  • Highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills to gain the confidence and cooperation of employees, managers and other stakeholders to facilitate positive outcomes.

  • Sound judgment and maturity to handle sensitive matters competently.

A tertiary qualification in human resources and/or industrial relations, and exposure to the health industry would be highly regarded (but not essential).
