Paralegal/Law Clerk


An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Paralegal/Law Clerk to join the team at Northern Health. As a member of the Legal team, the Paralegal/Law Clerk, will contribute to the overall brand of the Legal office by delivering high quality work and establishing effective relationships.
The role: Providing direct support to the Chief Legal Officer, the Paralegal/Law Clerk will work closely with Northern Health’s Legal team including the Freedom of Information (FOI) and Privacy team. The position will ensure often be the first point of contact for legal office queries, will identify legal issues, apply legal office processes, provide agreed information on standard medico-legal queries, provide legislative compliance support, and assist to identify applicable Northern Health procedures for staff queries.
This position is open to full time and part time applications (minimum 3 days per week)
About you: As a member of the Northern Health Legal office, the Paralegal/Law Clerk, will contribute to the overall brand of the Legal team by delivering high quality work and establishing effective relationships. The successful applicant will have the following skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or proven experience in providing paralegal/legal assistant/legal clerk support in a legal office environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in analysing and communicating the essential meaning of written documents, including policy and legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply organisational policy and legal requirements.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology to improve service delivery, including implementing electronic databases and tracking systems; developing a digital presence for the legal team and streamlining stakeholder access to information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with expertise in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel in a legal office environment.
  • Ability to manage several priority matters contemporaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.

The Staff Immunisation Questionnaire must be completed by all new employees as part of the mandatory on-boarding process. New employees are not permitted to undertake any activity that requires patient contact prior to clearance by the Staff Immunisation Nurses; this also includes evidence of having the Flu vaccination on a yearly basis. New employees with contra-indications to vaccinations or who decline vaccination are required to attend a face to face consultation with the Immunisation Nurses for appropriate documentation of their contraindications or declination. This must be completed prior to commencing any work with Northern Health.
