About the Role
The Public Health Unit has a focus on protecting health and preventing disease at a population or whole of community level. The unit's role includes:
- Coordinate disease control initiatives including response to disease outbreaks and pandemics.
- Undertake a range of environmental health initiatives including monitoring compliance with and enforcing public health legislation in relation to food safety and standards, regulated medicines and poisons, tobacco control, communicable diseases and public health matters.
- Undertake assessment and coordination of local responses to environmental health risks.
- Undertake epidemiology and health surveillance activities including the collation, analysis, monitoring and dissemination of information on disease trends.
