The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources is establishing a new Industry Capability Taskforce to support the implementation of the $1.5 billion Modern Manufacturing Strategy (MMS). The strategy is an investment to upscale Australia’s manufacturing capability and strengthen our future resilience, with the vision for Australia to be recognised as a high-quality and sustainable manufacturing nation.
This recruitment process will fill several vacancies at APS Level 6 and Executive Level 1 levels across all three branches of the taskforce – supply chains, industry engagement and strategy implementation. We are seeking talented individuals to work across the following areas implementing key aspects of the Strategy:
The $1.3 billion Modern Manufacturing Initiative (MMI), which will build Australian manufacturing by addressing barriers to scale and unlocking new sources of investment. The MMI will build a network across business, research, and government, unlocking private sector investment in priority projects. It will co-fund projects that will drive high-value manufacturing activities across a sector or a region. These might be large firms with clear plans to integrate SMEs into their global supply chains or collaborate on projects that help drive technology uptake and business competitiveness.
Road maps across the following priority areas will be co-designed with industry:
The $107 million Supply Chain Resilience Initiative (SCRI) designed to strengthen Australia’s access to critical products and services during future crises and motivate industry to provide domestic supply chains with critical products.
The department will work with industry to identify critical products and services, map supply chains and evaluate their resilience under possible crisis situations. The outcomes of this work will be published in Sovereign Manufacturing Capability Plans ahead of support being available from 1 July 2021, for businesses to establish or scale a capability that addresses an identified supply chain vulnerability.
The Industry Capability Taskforce is located in Canberra. Consideration will also be given to staff to work from a location outside of Canberra.
