Training Officer, APS Level 6, Training And Development

About the team

The Performance and Governance section within the Business Outreach and Insights branch provides a comprehensive, integrated support model for staff delivering grants and services across AusIndustry and the Business Grants Hub.

The section works closely across policy, grant delivery and ICT areas to embed standard practices into day to day operations, including system and business processes. We are a multidisciplinary team responsible for ensuring that delivery areas are business ready for grants administration and training and educating our users.

Our ideal candidate

We are seeking a Training Officer to assist with supporting, upskilling and formal training of departmental staff in both grants systems and business processes.

The required skills and experience for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to tailor communication style.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with a demonstrated ability to engage, liaise and interact with a broad range of audiences.
  • Demonstrated drive, initiative, considered judgement, and the ability to work both independently, and as part of a high output team.
  • Ability to learn and master new systems quickly, passing on skills and knowledge to others.
  • Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify issues and generate strategies to deliver key project outcomes.
It is highly desirable for the candidates to have:
  • Experience in a similar training and development role or within the adult learning field.
  • Strong systems literacy and ability to communicate across both business and technical areas.
  • Knowledge of grants administration processes or ability to learn process quickly.

Experience in Microsoft Dynamics 365, Microsoft SharePoint and/or Adobe Captivate will be looked upon favourably.

What you will do Working across a number of systems with staff spread across the country, your duties may include:
  • Facilitating face to face or videoconference training sessions to departmental staff and external providers.
  • Developing and delivering system or business training material including standard operating procedures, training needs assessments, training schedules and session plans.
  • Storyboarding and developing eLearning content to meet areas of competency and desired outcomes.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements.


To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.

Security Clearance

These positions require a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.


There is some flexibility on the location of the role however the preference is to be co-located with existing members of the team in either the Sydney or Canberra offices.

This recruitment process is being used to fill a non-ongoing APS Level 6 position. A merit pool may be established to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing APS Level 6 vacancies should they become available within 12 months form the date advertised.
